Eve calls for Stars’ fans support
Following last Friday’s triumph in the Final of the 2012 Toyota Classic against Defence Force, Eve, a former soldier and Trinidad and Tobago international said in an interview on the Pro League website, “I want to thank all the people for coming out and support us. And who have been sticking with us.
“But I also want to say, don’t just stick with us for the good times, because there would be some rocky times.”
North East Stars supported by travelling fans, some donned in the maroon replica team jerseys, picked up its maiden Toyota Classic with a 4-2 penalty win following a nerve wrecking 2-2 draw.
Eve who labelled his team’s support as “tremendous” said, “(Club president) Darryl Mahabir and Maurice Eligon in marketing are doing their part and we need to do our part on the pitch.
“So if you can imagine us getting our field in Sangre Grande and having this sort of crowd support. We had to pay for buses for them to come down but if we are playing at home, we would get a lot more people coming out and a better atmosphere for us to play.” It is the first title for Eve in the capacity as ‘head’ coach of a professional club. “This is the first time as head coach,” shouted a jubilant Eve. “I did this a couple years ago with Ma Pau.” Ironically Eve won the title against North East Stars in the 2010 Final, as an assistant to Michael McComie at now dissolved Ma Pau SC. “It feels really good, because the first goal came straight off the training pitch,” Eve stated. “It was a corner that we practiced. “We knew that Defence Force would have had the height advantage against us missing (defenders) Seon Power and (Kareem) Moses at the back. And they scored on two set plays because they had the height advantage and I thought that’s the only way they could have held us.
“But we were disciplined in the way that we played and I want to credit the guys because we never gave up.
