Tobago Culinary Experience 2004
TIDCO Vice President (Tourism), Warren Solomon said the availability of sumptuous cuisine played a great part in people deciding whether to visit a particular destination. He made the point at the formal opening of “Tobago Culinary Experience 2004” at the Mt Irvine Beach Facilities. The culinary experience was organised by the Tourism Division of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA). The venue at Mt Irvine was transformed into a large outdoor kitchen as cooks from throughout the island prepared a variety of indigenous dishes to compete for cash prizes.
The Tobago winners will go on to compete in the finals of the Culinary Experience in Trinidad in July. “The influence of food and drink on travel decisions is stronger than most people might imagine,” Solomon said. “Apart from accommodation and attraction, food is one of the three major elements required when planning a visit to a community.” He said the culinary heritage of Trinidad and Tobago was as varied and interesting as the diversity of cultures and traditions in the country. Solomon said plans are already underway for a major international Culinary Experience in Trinidad next year.
