Schoolgirl drugged, raped

POLICE have launched a manhunt for a taxi-driver who is believed to have drugged a schoolgirl and raped her in a San Fernando hotel, on Monday. The Form Four student told police, she boarded a B12 Nissan Sentra taxi at Fyzabad Junction around 10 am and asked the driver to take her to San Fernando. On reaching Oropouche, the 17-year-old girl said she started feeling ill and asked the driver, whom she knew by his nickname, to buy a Lucozade for her. The victim said after drinking the beverage she felt drowsy and fell asleep in the car. She said when she woke up she was lying naked on a bed and the driver was standing naked next to her.

She said the driver then raped her. After the assault, the driver reportedly threatened the teen. The teenager was ordered to get dressed and she was dropped off in San Fernando. The teenager subsequently made her way to the San Fernando police station where she made a report. She was taken to hospital where the District Medical Officer (DMO) medically examined her and confirmed to investigators that she was sexually assaulted. Up to late yesterday no arrest had been made. San Fernando police are continuing investigations.
