Uriah Highway vendors told to stand firm

Vendors who sell on the Uriah Butler Highway off Monroe Road/Caroni Savannah Road, Chaguanas, claimed that they were warned by police to pack up and move within seven days or have their stalls demolished. Manohar Ramsaran, MP for the area and Councillor Joey Samuel, said yesterday that they have no objections to the vendors’ removal, but called on Government to construct a layby and or make available other alternate sites to accommodate the vendors before moving them.

In a joint statement, the two politicians noted that no written notices were served on the vendors and called on the police to withdraw their threats. They further called on the vendors to “stand firm  and defend their stalls. Earn your livelihood, don’t turn to crime and pushing cocaine.”
