Thousands give worship in the rain

NOT EVEN the heavy showers that beat down on the city’s capital yesterday, threatening to disrupt the 2004 National Liberation Day street parade and rally, could dampen the spirits of the thousands who danced and sang praises from Woodford Square to Jean Pierre Complex. The street parade, organised by Youth For Christ, was led by the music of Johnny Q Sound System from Woodford Square down to South Quay, onto Wrightson Road and into the Jean Pierre Complex.

Thousands of youths sang songs of worship and gave praise to music echoing from ten music trucks. The multitude of colours representing every district across the country, as far as Toco from the East and Pointe-a-Pierre from the South, could be seen for miles along Wrightson Road. At the Jean Pierre Complex the crowd was brought to their feet by top local guest artiste Rev Angela Williams. The gathering was also entertained by 2003 Cable and Wireless Starquest winner Emerand Henry of St Lucia as well as Shiselon and Tiko. Former reggae artiste, turned gospel singer Chevelle Franklyn of Jamaica, Christian Massive of The Bahamas, the Love Circle and Pastor Mark Ballosingh were also expected to make an appearance at the event.
