Woman in court for Frederick St killing
The 17-year-old woman charged with killing Lennard Jack, 19, at his workplace on Upper Frederick Street almost two months ago, yesterday appeared before Chief Magistrate Sherman Mc Nicolls. After adjournments on several occasions, the matter began yesterday, with one witness giving evidence before the court. The lone witness called yesterday was mother of the deceased, Karen Jack, who gave her address as Upper Gordon Street in Laventille. Jack, who gave evidence for about 15 minutes, broke down in tears as she was lead into evidence by Deputy DPP, Carla Brown Antoine.
Attorney representing the accused, Nathaniel King, reserved cross-examination of the witness. It is alleged that the accused stabbed Len-nard Jack in the neck. Reports state that Jack, of Wharton Street in Laventille, was at the Super 10 store on Frederick Street when he and the accused had a heated altercation. After the confrontation, it is alleged that the teenager, who was angry at the time, whipped out a knife and stabbed Jack in the neck. He collapsed and died near the front of the store, while the accused, who walked out of the store, was held by police officers a short distance away. The accused will reappear in court on June 1.
