Featuring their three dynamic choirs — tthe veteran Adult, vibrant Youth and irresistible Children’s choirs, the BP Marionettes continue their 50th anniversary celebrations with a programme of audience Christmas favourites, and the exciting world premiere of Assistant Musical Director Dr Roger Henry’s powerful new six-minute work, “There was a Man Sent From God.”
The series also introduces new corporate partners for the BP Marionettes, who join the title sponsor, BP Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) in support of the series and the Marionettes’ 50th anniversary.
Explained bpTT President Norm Christie:
BPTT began its partnership with Marionettes in 1972, and our commitment has endured because we share the belief that arts and culture can be used as a powerful agent for self development.” Together, bpTT and the Marionettes once again present their cherished free matinee for institutions which care for our nation’s seniors, orphans, special needs children and adults, and our society’s most vulnerable.
“For many, the Marionettes’ Christmas show marks the traditional launch of the local Christmas season. The highlight for me each year is the opportunity to join in working with my fellow employees and other volunteers in hosting the special matinee,” said Christie Founded in 1963, incorporated as a non-profit organisation in 2005, and sponsored by bpTT since 1972, the BP Marionettes Chorale is one of the Caribbean’s most celebrated choirs, both at home and abroad.
In 1995, the Youth Chorale was formed, followed by the formation of the Children’s Choir in 2012. Their young members now come from over 50 schools and universities nationwide. Led by Artistic and Musical Director Gretta Taylor, Assistant Musical Director Dr Roger Henry, Assistant Artistic Director Caroline Taylor, Assistant Production Manager Jacqueline Smith, Property Fund Director Susan Dore, and a committee headed by founder member and Production Manager Joanne Mendes, the choirs mount at least two major productions a year, showcasing a repertoire ranging from European Renaissance to Opera, Broadway, Caribbean Folk and Calypso.
