Man threatens to blow up Red House — fined $400
A 22-year-old man pleaded guilty yesterday to falsely reporting on a mobile phone to police that he was Yasin Abu Bakr and a bomb was about to explode at the Red House. Nicholas Gumbs was charged with wasteful employment of police time and misuse of telephone facilities. He was fined $200 on both charges when he appeared before Magistrate Armina Deonarinesingh in the San Fernando Fourth Court. The charges were laid by Insp Brereton of the San Fernando CID and Cpl Ali prosecuted.
According to the evidence, WPC Adella Scott of the E-999 received a telephone call at around 9 am on May 28. The person on the other line identified himself as Yasin Abu Bakr, saying he was going to blow up the Red House in the next hour. Investigations were conducted and the call was traced. Gumbs said after seeing certain reports in the news he gave himself up to police because, “I was not comfortable with myself.”
