Gunmen shoot at off-duty cop
AN OFF-DUTY policeman who was shot at by two men, hid in bushes from midnight to sunrise in order to avoid the men who drew their guns on him. The incident happened at Lengua Road near Princes Town around 12:15 am Saturday when the policeman, who is attached to the Ste Margaret’s Police Station, went to visit his father.
According to a police report, the policeman had responded to a distress telephone call from his father who complained that two men had been stalking him. The report stated that when the policeman was about to enter his father’s house, two men armed with firearms accosted him. The men, the report stated, fired two shots at the policeman who at the time was dressed in plainclothes. But the police report stated that the policeman sought cover in some nearby bushes. He remained hidden in the bushes, according to the report, for almost six hours until sunrise. A party of policemen headed by Sgt Errol Ramdath responded and went in search of two suspects, ages 51 and 47. Ramdath is continuing investigations.
