Fight peer pressure with prayer
THE PRINCIPAL of the Sangre Grande Hindu School has advised the school’s 2004 graduates not to bow to peer pressure, but instead turn to “prayer pressure.” Lal Bagaloo made this appeal at the school’s graduation ceremony yesterday. He told the students to find the time to pray and practice their religion. He also told the students that the secondary schools they will be moving on to next term are riddled with all sorts of crimes and they had to be vigilant, careful and selective with the friends they make and the company they keep. He also urged them to be obedient and do things that will satisfy their parents, teachers and those in authority so that they will be rewarded with blessings in abundance.
He warned that as they venture into their new educational careers there would be many challenges but they must set goals and work toward achieving them. “Do not believe it is impossible for you to achieve any position in life,” he said. Bagaloo said he was confident the ammunition that they were provided with at their primary school — good discipline, morality, caring and spiritual strength — will fortify them against the negative attitudes plaguing the nation’s schools. He told the students they should be ambassadors for Sangre Grande Hindu School by projecting the positive attitudes and virtues they have acquired at the school.
