Terror suspect spent 6 days in TT
A SAUDI ARABIAN national who is wanted for allegedly plotting terrorist attacks against the United States, spent six days in Trinidad in October 2001 — one month after the terrorist attacks on the United States. According to US officials, Adnan El Shukrijumah, 28, spent the time in Trinidad with persons whom can only be described as “shady characters.” However, FBI and other Government officials in the US have again asked Trinidad and Tobago to be on the lookout for El-Shukrijumah who may be plotting terrorist attacks on the United States in the build-up to the September 11 anniversary. El-Shukrijumah is now on the FBI’s most wanted list of persons. The US have asked countries worldwide to be on the lookout for this person, who may be using a Saudi Arabian, Canadian, Trinidad and Tobago or Guyanese passport.
According to the New York Newsday, El Shukrijumah was spotted earlier this year at an Internet cafe in Honduras, and was believed to have entered the country illegally from Nicaragua or Panama. “We do not rule out that this man could have been here or passed through Nicaragua, but disguised and with false documents,” national police spokesman Freddy Salvatierra said Thursday of the Saudi-born suspect. The FBI has asked law enforcement agencies to look for El Shukrijumah, 28, on the grounds he might be plotting terrorist attacks against the United States or its interests abroad. El Shukrijumah was on a list of seven people the US Justice Department released publicly in May. US authorities have said they suspect links between El Shukrijumah and other terror suspects, including Jose Padilla, an American arrested in 2002.
