Caparo River bursts its banks
Councillor Paras Ramoutar of the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation has appealed to Minister of Works and Transport Franklyn Khan to start a hydraulic work programme on the Caparo River after it burst its banks yesterday. Heavy rainfall caused the Brasso Caparo Valley Road to become impassable yesterday as waters rose to three feet. Ramoutar said a few people were marooned in their homes. “No vehicles can get in, there is no movement of goods and services. It means people who went to work will have difficulty getting in. The flood will destroy agricultural produce and food prices at the Chaguanas market will be higher.” He appealed to the Health Ministry to spray the area to prevent water borne diseases.
