Trevor Paul is new Police Chief

Trevor Paul is the new Commissioner of Police. Sources at the Police Service Commission told Newsday that the recommendation by the PSC has been accepted by Prime Minister Patrick Manning. Chairman of the PSC, Christopher Thomas, will present the letter of appointment to Commissioner Paul at 9 am today. Paul joined the Police Service on June 1, 1966, and was a former president of the Police First Division Officers Association. He will retire from the Police Service on November 10, 2007.

His elevation to Commissioner means that Oswyn Allard will move up the rank to second Deputy Commissioner of Police and Snr Supt Shaheed Ali will move up to acting ACP. Newsday learnt that the PSC will also release the names of more than 150 new sergeants and 50 new inspectors. More than 100 police officers, friends and well-wishers yesterday gathered for a private ceremony at police headquarters to honour outgoing Police Commissioner Everald Snaggs for his contribution to the Police Service. He thanked all those who supported him.
