Probe into Ispat explosion goes on

AN official from the Steel Workers Union (SWU) yesterday, confirmed preliminary investigations into the cause of an explosion at Caribbean Ispat Limited was launched by both the Union and Company. According to reports, a blow-out at a cylinder at the Point Lisas-based company on Tuesday, resulted in nine workers being forced to seek medical attention after suffering from the effects of gas inhalation.  


The union official was unable to divulge details of investigations, saying a preliminary report had not yet been forwarded to his office. But he confirmed members of the company were also involved in the preliminary investigations and said his office was in regular contact with a senior official of Ispat’s Human Resources Department. Efforts to contact Ispat officials for a comment yesterday proved futile.
