Mentally ill man shot dead

A 26-year-old mentally ill man was fatally shot in the head while walking along Angelina Terrace, Morvant, on Saturday night. His murder is the 146th for the year so far. Reports revealed that ar-ound 11 pm, Mark Douglas alias “Bunty” was walking along Angelina Terrace, when he was confronted by a lone gunman who shot him once in the head. He slumped to the ground and was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police investigators were unable to establish a motive for the killing and are working along certain lines that it may have been a case of mistaken identity.

Yesterday, Roderick Dou-glas, the father of the dead man told Newsday that his son was a “cool” person and did not trouble anyone. He added that over a year ago, his son became ill and has been unable to work or fend for himself. The grieving man pointed out that his son was not a member of any gang or engaged in any illicit activities. He remained baffled as to why his son was killed. The 56-year-old man-re-vealed that based on information passed on to him by persons, his son may have been shot dead by a stray bullet. Residents of Angelina Ter-race also expressed shock over the killing and added that Douglas lived a simple life and never interferred with anyone. Officers of the Morvant CID are investigating.
