Man held in shooting incident

AROUCA policeman Dale Makoosing and family are living in fear now that the Second Caledonia, Morvant  man he identified as the one who shot-up his home two weeks ago, has been arrested. According to reports, Makoosing has now hired his own security to protect his wife and family because of the lack of the response by the Police Service. Makoosing, 26, was one of the officers involved in the inquiry into the fatal shooting of Galene Bonadie at Second Caledonia, Morvant earlier this year. His  home was shot at in the early morning on June 18 by a man who the cop  recognised as one of the men from Second Caledonia who had threatened him on two previous occasions after the fatal shooting. The cop’s frightened wife called for protection, since none was provided by the police. With the arrest of the man who is a known gang member, the Makoosings fear reprisals. When Newsday visited the family’s Five Rivers home in Arouca, Makoosing’s wife and parents expressed fear because they are concerned the associates of the man could return, and follow through on threats to kill Dale and other members of his family.

They also expressed no confidence in the utterances of newly appointed Commissioner of Police Trevor Paul, who said he would be looking at those situations. “We have heard that before, and nothing is forthcoming.” The family also said they intend taking legal action against the Police Service to have some increased security measures put in place. Dale and three others, all members of the North-Eastern Task Force involved in the fatal shooting,  have all received threats to their lives. Sources however told Newsday personal firearms have been issued to two of the officers and none to the other two. The 20-year-old Morvant man was arrested on an exercise on Thursday by Morvant police for possession of marijuana and later turned over to the Arouca police. He will appear before an Arima magistrate on Tuesday, and a Port-of-Spain magistrate on Wednesday. Insp Hanraj laid the shooting with intent and other gun-related charges.
