Man in court for shooting at cop’s house

A 22-year-old man who allegedly shot at a police officer’s house appeared yesterday before an Arima magistrate to answer charges arising out of the incident. Emmanuel Mohammed of Williams Avenue, Second Caledonia, Morvant was before Magistrate, Debra Quintyne char-ged with possession of a firearm, possession of three rounds of ammunition and discharging a firearm within 40 yards of a public place. Mohammed was also charged for possession of marijuana after the illegal substance was found on his person at the time of the arrest. According to reports, Mohammed was identified as one of three men who shot at the home of PC Dale Makoonsingh last week Thursday.

Reports state the officer, who is attached to the North Eastern Division Task Force, heard explosions outside his Arouca home at about 2.45 am on the said day. On looking outside, the officer saw three men, one armed with a gun, firing shots at his home. After the shooting spree, the men reportedly ran off. A report was subsequently made to the Arouca police. After the charges were read, the magistrate denied Moh-ammed bail. He will reappear in the Arima Court on August 6, while the matter for possession of marijuana was transferred to the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court and will be called on August 10.
