Two shot near Despers Pan Theatre

TWO workmen were treated and discharged at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital yesterday after they were shot in a crossfire between two rival gangs on Laventille Road, near Despers Pan Theatre. Winston Alexander, 46, of McShine Lands in Laventille and his colleague Kenneth Davis, 46, of East Dry River, both received flesh wounds. Davis was shot in the right knee and Alexander on the left side of his hip, while sitting outside a parlour. According to reports, the two men, who were working on a nearby building, entered a parlour for some refreshments around 10 am, when a van pulled up.Two of the men from a gang known to police started firing at members of a rival gang. The rival gang returned fire. Sensing trouble, Davis and Alexander attempted to run, when they were shot. Snr Supt Denoon quickly coordinated a team which locked the area down and began a futile search for the gunmen. Police sources told Newsday an arrest was imminent.
