Children’s Festival for Unity tomorrow at Beetham
MORE THAN 300 elementary school-children between ages seven and ten will attend the Children’s Festival for Unity, which will be held at the Beetham Excel School tomorrow. The theme of the festival is “Welcome to My Neighbourhood.” The day-long event, which starts at 10 am, will highlight the themes of peace and unity and will feature an array of food, rides, music, clowns, magicians and cartoon characters.
Parents, teachers and police officers will have an opportunity to interact socially, providing the children with a “pro-social model of close, positive relationships among the diverse city neighbourhoods.” The goal of the festival is to foster positive community relations, peace and unity by bringing together children from the entire Port-of-Spain district. The objectives are to develop closer, more positive and productive ties between the police and the community; to reinforce a message of peace and unity among the children of Beetham; to combat the negative image of Beetham by bringing children from other neighbourhoods to learn more about the Beetham community, its families, culture, history, and daily life; and to establish a precedent for similar events that would call attention to community unification among all residents. Transportation for the event will be provided by the Police Service.
