Mayaro cops nab suspect
GOVERNMENT’S latest effort at dealing with the rampant crime situation — placing an advertisement in the print media showing mugshots of 14 men who “have information that is key to the current drive to reduce crime in our country” — paid dividends yesterday when one of the men was captured in Mayaro within mere hours of the publication.
Police sources told Newsday that Clement Samuel Cadogan, 25, who is wanted for several warrants in the Besson Street, Port-of-Spain district, was apprehended and taken into custody after numerous telephone calls from civilians in the area who identified him from pictures published in Sunday’s edition of this newspaper. The photos were run as a newspaper advertisement from the Ministry of National Security in the Sunday Newsday. According to the ministry, the 14 men may have information key to the State’s current drive at reducing crime in the country.
According to police reports, Mayaro police, led by Cpl Wayne Doodhai, swooped down on a one-room house at Eccles Road, Grand Lagoon, where they found the wanted man at around 11 am on Sunday. The suspect had been living there alone for the past six months. He was taken to Mayaro Police Station where he remained up to yesterday awaiting transfer to the Inter-Agency Task Force for questioning into several unsolved crimes.
