Carapichaima mother gives birth to triplets

AS THE nation prepares to celebrate 42 years as an Independent nation, a Carapichaima woman has something of her own to celebrate, having given birth to healthy triplets on Friday morning. The triplets, two girls and a boy, are yet to be named, but proud mom Lecya Prince, 23, of Bagna Trace, Chase Village, Carapichaima said she was very excited about her new bundles of joy.

When asked which of the triplets made the grand entrance into the world first, a smiling Prince said her son was the first to be born at 9.25 am and weighed 1.8 kg, while his sisters followed weighing 2.14 kg and 1.9 kg. The triplets were delivered by Caesarean section. In an interview with Sunday Newsday at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital yesterday, Prince explained that when she was five months pregnant she visited her doctor, who sent her to get an ultra sound. But, when the results came back, Prince realised she was not having just one new addition to her family, but three. The proud mom, who already has a four-year-old daughter named Dellecya said she was not surprised by the news, since one of her aunts had triplets several years ago.

She explained that she is presently unemployed, but she believes that while things may be tough at times, something would work out for her family. Looking at her mother with a smile, Prince said that she had a lot of support from her mom and other family members. When Sunday Newsday visited the hospital, Prince, though still in pain from the delivery, was happy to share her new bundles of joy with Sister Friday, the ward matron and the other members of staff at the Maternity Section of the PoS General Hospital.
