Two prison officers injured in Sea Lots crash

TWO prison officers are warded at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital after being injured in an accident on the Beetham Highway in the vicinity of Sea Lots yesterday. Police told Sunday Newsday Jeffery Banyon and Rodney Granado, both of Arima were undergoing emergency surgery yesterday afternoon. One of the men suffered a broken arm, while the other suffered a concussion.

According to reports, around 1.15 pm, the men were travelling into Port-of-Spain along the Beetham Highway, when on approaching Sea Lots, the driver swerved to avoid hitting a man attempting to cross the highway and side-swiped a van coming out of Sea Lots. The van was driven by Seecharan Ramoutaur. The car then flipped twice and came to a stop on top of the median. Passersby quickly pulled both men from the vehicle  and they were rushed to hospital by ambulance. When Sunday Newsday spoke to Ramoutaur, the still dazed man said “one minute I was entering the highway, then I hear a bang and out of nowhere I saw this car flip and land on the median.” Besson Street police are investigating.
