TT Fed Cup team crashes out

After cruising through their Pool ‘B’ campaign by trouncing second seeds Bahamas 3-0 and then clinching a 2-1 victory over Costa Rica, the national players were unable to progress further as Peru marched on to the next level of competition.

In the opening match, TT’s Anneliese Rose showed a flicker of hope but was soon beaten 2-6, 4-6 by Patricia Ku Flores. Newly crowned National Women’s Singles champion, Breana Stampfli, then locked horns with Bianca Botto in the second match-up which the TT representative lost 1-6, 3-6 to hand Peru the triumph and promotional place for next year’s meet. Since this clash was a best-of-three, the remaining Doubles match between Rose/ Stampfli versus Flores/ Ximena Siles Luna was not played.

The girls will now return to the twin-island republic today to recuperate and reflect on a tough but still creditable Fed Cup Americas Group II campaign.
