Minister praises young environmentalists

MINISTER of Public Utilities and the Environment Pennelope Beckles commended young environmentalists for sacrificing their two-month holidays to learn about TT’s wildlife. Speaking at a graduation function for the 70 participants at the Junior Jedi Camp at the Eric Williams Auditorium, La Joya., the Minister commended the young environmentalists for their determination and discipline. “Young people are our future leaders,” she declared, adding that what they had learned will benefit the future of TT. “More people need to be educated in preserving the environment,” she said “In Trinidad, a culture has developed where people would throw litter from their cars. What we do reflects on what kind of society we are. Trinidad needs to deal seriously with these filthy activities, to achieve  a better society.” Director of the Junior Jedi Camp, Ayanna Dardaine, reminded the graduates, that the road to  education was a long journey. She was proud to report that all the graduates successfully completed the programme in the areas of recycling, planting and soil conservation.
