Don’t fall out with your eyeshadow
Eye shadow fallout is so frustrating. You’ve just completed applying your makeup, so you take a last look in the mirror to make sure everything looks good and there it is – eye shadow dust all over your cheeks! You try to get rid of it, but that makes it worse. Now it’s been smudged and you have made a huge mess. And it always seems to happen when you’re running late.
Fortunately, there are lots of ways to avoid this from happening. Here are the ones that work for me:
Catch fallout with powder:
Apply a generous dose of loose powder underneath the eyes with a big fluffy brush. This will catch any fallout. Next, apply your eye shadow as usual, and, when you’re done working your magic, grab the fluffy brush again and swipe away all the powder. The powder and fallout are gone and your face makeup still looks perfect. This trick is particularly useful when using dark eye shadow colours.
Do your eye makeup first:
Although the tip above works really well, I prefer to do my eye makeup first, and apply my foundation, concealer and blush later. I simply take a face wipe or my makeup remover cloth and wipe away all fallout from my cheeks after I’ve finished with the eyes. This method also saves a lot of time for me.
Tap off excess product:
Always lightly tap excess eye shadow off the brush before applying it to your eyes. This will prevent the excess powder falling all over the face.
Pat on eye shadow:
Don’t sweep on eye shadow. Instead, pat it on gently. Not only this will help prevent fallout, but it will make the eye shadow brighter and more vibrant. But remember as stated above, before you pat, make sure to tap off excess.
Use a primer:
I find I get less fallout when I use an eye shadow primer such as Too Faced Shadow Insurance or Urban Decay Primer Potion. A good primer will help eye shadows stick to the lid, thus minimising fallout. This is a plus and a great option for those who prefer makeup before eye application.
Use eye shadows wet:
Wetting your brush with water or spritzing it with a product like MAC Fix+ will also help avoid fallout. This method works particularly well with pigments, glitters and loose products, but shouldn’t be used with matte eye shadows as it could change their formula.
These tips will help in your whole makeup application, saving you time, product and stress.
