$52,000 robbery suspect pointed out in ID parade

A 24-year-old robbery suspect and a man wanted for a murder in the South Western Division were among 20 persons arrested in an exercise in Central Division on Thursday. The robbery suspect was arrested at a house in Cunupia. He was placed on an identification parade yesterday and identified as being involved in a $52,000 robbery. Last Friday, an employee of Ramroop’s Supermarket was on her way to deposit $52,000 at a nearby bank, when she was struck on the head with a gun and robbed of the bag containing the cash. The 24-year-old suspect was charged yesterday with the robbery after the ID parade.

During the same exercise, officers held a 35-year-old man at Enterprise, Chaguanas, who is a suspect in a murder in the South Western Division. He was handed over to homicide officers. A number of people were held on outstanding warrants and several drug dens were raided during the exercise, which started around midday on Thursday and ended at midnight. The exercise, which was part of the anti-crime initiative organised by Police Commissioner Trevor Paul, was led by acting Insp Hoggart Lumy and acting Sgts Ajith Persad, Hayden McKenzie and Danny Ramlogan.
