Minister keeps a road promise

Less than twenty-four hours after Barrackpore taxi drivers were promised remedial repairs to the St Croix Main Road by Works Minister, Franklin Khan, engineers from the Ministry of Works and Transport, using heavy machinery, had begun to perform grading and levelling works on the four and a half kilometre roadway.

Earlier in the week, taxi drivers had refused to ply the route, citing the deplorable conditions on the major access road. However, at a meeting at Princes Town Regional Corporation offices on Friday, Khan assured members of the Barrackpore Taxi Association that contracts to repair the road were awaiting final approval from both the IDB and the Central Tenders Board. As a temporary measure, Khan also promised taxi drivers that temporary works, including the filling and resurfacing of the major potholes and landslips would be instituted from yesterday morning.
