Two killed in drive-by shooting in Laventille

JUST days after elders at Quarry Road declared they had at last formed a truce between warring gangs in Laventille, ending the killing, shooting and fighting, the murder rate in the area has jumped by two. According to reports, security officer Junior Granger, 25, Don Primus, 27, and David Parris, 25, were liming on a block at Prizgar Lands at Eastern Quarry around 8.45 pm on Thursday, when a silver car drove up to the group. The occupants then sprayed a volley of shots as they tried to escape. When the men drove off, Granger was found dead in a pool of blood in a nearby alley. He had a bullet wound to the head, while Primus, who had bullet wounds to the head and chest, and David who was wounded on the shoulder, were rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Primus was pronounced dead on arrival.

When Newsday visited the area, residents refused to talk, saying they knew nothing, but Jean Granger, mother of one of the dead men pointed out, “My son was no bad boy. He was in no gang. He was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. “My son spoke to me just five minutes before, next I heard gunshots. When I ran out he was dead. “My son was out there because his car was down. He was just cooling his head. There are too many guns in the hands of these youths. It is time the police get rid of the guns because too many innocent people are being killed.

“I want the people who did this found, but I do not want revenge. God will deal with them.” When Newsday visited Primus’ home, no one was around. Police sources said that while they have no record of Granger, they have records of Primus and believe the shooting is a result of the war between the Prizgar Lands and Picton Road gangs. The two men, who lived at Prizgar Lands, are believed to have associated with the gang from the area. Visiting the scene were Snr Supt Denoon, ASP Sealy, and Sgts Boyce and McKay. Sgt McKay is investigating.
