Contract killer killed in Laventille

BRENT ELLIS, alias “Bully,” who was suspected to have been involved in the “hit” on Prison Officer Winston Sandy in May last year, was set up and gunned down by his former foes on Monday night. According to reports, Ellis, 20, of Rose Hill in Laventille, was recently excommunicated from a Carenage Muslim organisation to which he belonged, after a drug deal went sour. He immediately hooked up with a gang in Rose Hill, which he had been previously at war with. The gang members took him in, pretending to befriend their former ally. When his guard was down, however, he was lured to Second Street, East Dry River in Laventille Tuesday morning, where he was shot dead.

Around 12.20 am Mon-day, residents at Rose Hill heard a shot and found Ellis’ body with a single bullet wound to the head. Police sources confirmed that while they had no concrete evidence, Ellis, who has a checkered criminal history, was their main suspect in carrying out the hit on Sandy. Sandy, 35, a paramedic, was executed on May 13 last year at Rose Hill after a hit was ordered on his head from inside the prison wall. Investigations revealed that Sandy, who was shot five times, had had an altercation with a prisoner because he stopped some illegal activities from taking place in the Port-of-Spain Prison. Police believe Sandy’s action to halt the illegal activity caused financial problems among some prisoners, resulting in his contract killing. Cpl Mercer is investigating.
