Top entertainers throw benefit concert for Grenada

SOME of this country’s most recognised entertainers have confirmed their participation at today’s benefit concert to raise funds for Grenada. “Together As One - The Concert,” is the title chosen for the musical event scheduled to take place at Queen’s Park Oval. Showtime is 2 pm. Produced by Village Promotions, patrons can look forward to performances from soca diva Denise “Saucy Wow” Belfon, reigning International Soca Monarch Bungi Garlin, reigning Road March Monarch Shurwayne Winchester, chutney sensation Adesh Samaroo, as well as music bands Surface, Atlantik, Imij and Co, Invazion and Traffik.

This concert represents TT’s continuing effort to bring financial and other forms of relief to Grenada which was hit hard by the passage of Hurricane Ivan. According to Village Promotions spokeswoman Michelle Hart, artistes billed to perform have donated their time and talents to the cause. She said corporate TT has been very forthcoming. “We don’t have sponsors for the show, we have contributors. Companies have purchased tickets in bulk, which would contribute significantly to our effort,” Hart said. One such company is Newsday, “The People’s Newspaper.” Others include Carib Brewery, Angostura, Blue Waters, Coca Cola, Rent-A-Amp, Queen’s Park Cricket Club, 98.9YES FM, 96.1WEFM, Gayelle, Vibe CT 105, Ebony 104, Chaconia Hotel, TTEC and Clico Investment Bank.

A committee headed by Clive Pantin, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Foundation for the Enrichment and the Enhancement of Life (FEEL), has been established to oversee the distribution of proceeds from the concert to the people of Grenada. The entertainment line-up for today’s event also includes Benjai, Maximus Dan, Sanell Dempster, Rachel Price, 3 Canal, 3 Suns, Shadow, Sherwin Gardener, KMC and Alicia D’ Duchess. DJ music will be provided by Associate Degree, Studio Guys and Radioactive. The show will be recorded and shown in Grenada at a later date.  Tickets for the concert cost $50.
