Family arrested for shotgun, ammo
A family of five, including a 84-year-old grandfather, was among 66 persons arrested during a three-day police exercise in the South Western Division. The elderly man, his 49-year-old son, his wife, 48, his other son, 47, and grandson, 16, were arrested after police raided their Fyzabad home and found a 12-gauge shot gun and a round of ammunition. The exercise, co-ordinated by Snr Supt Myers, supervised by Insp Wells and led by Sgts Gay, Mohammed and Palloo and including Cpl Minors, PCs Sylvester, Jones and Ramdeen, also saw the recovery of a white Honda Civic, which was reported stolen in the San Fernando district. The car was discovered in a forested area in Fyzabad, minus several parts. Several other persons were arrested for various offences including wounding, larceny of cattle, narcotics related offences and outstanding warrants. The suspects are expected to appear before a Siparia Magistrate tomorrow.
