Man in court for Morvant murder

A self-employed butcher appeared in court yesterday charged with the stabbing death of a Morvant pensioner last week. Appearing before Chief Magistrate Sherman Mc Nicolls was 24-year-old Nigel Brown who, according to the police, gave his addresses as Mani Tookram Road, La Horquetta and La Resource Road, D’Abadie. Brown is accused of murdering Lloyd Bailey of Second Caledonia and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm to the wife of the deceased, Elaine Bailey.

Both Bailey and his wife were attacked last Thursday morning at their home by two men. Lloyd Bailey, who was stabbed during the attack, subsequently died. His wife was stabbed in the forehead. The accused, who was caught by a 14-year-old boy while fleeing the scene, was arrested by officers of the Morvant Police Station and charged by Cpl Francis Vidale. Brown was not represented in court yesterday and was remanded to the St Ann’s Hospital where he will spend 14 days for psychiatric evaluation. The matter was adjourned to November 16.
