Chantuelle Awards
THE Trinbago Unified Calypsonian Organisation (TUCO) paid tribute to its members last Saturday with the first annual Chantuelle Calypso Awards. The function was part of TUCO’s observance of Calypso History Month and bestowed honours on calypso singers and musicians as well. The Mighty Duke (Kelvin Pope) and Axeback (Rawle Titus) received the Chantuelle Excellence Award, while Ed Watson took home the Chantuelle Special Contributors Awards.
Neil “Iwer” George earned the Chantuelle Entrepreneur Award. Makandal Daaga received the Chantuelle Visionary Award. Accolades were also given posthumously to Lord Melody, Maestro, Merchant and Ruby Radix. Acting Prime Minister Joan Yuille-Williams and Junior Minister of Gender Affairs Eulalie James attended the event at Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s.
