Culture Minister praises Shiv Sangeet
“It is good to see so many young people involve in the arts of music and song. This school is certainly doing a lot to promote students who want to learn the arts and I would like to congratulate the director Shivanand Maharaj for a job well done,” the Minister said.
She was amazed to see the young children master the violin and tabla. She was speaking at the annual concert of the Shiv Sangeet school held at Naparima Bowl in San Fernando on Saturday night. Forty students made up the choir while there thirty six students playing musical instruments at the same time on stage.
The youths shone as they played Indian classical music much the delight of a packed audience. Shivanand has mastered five instruments including the the harmonium (hand organ), violin, accordion, flute, and dholak (hand drums).
He directed this show which lasted just overt four hours starting at 6pm. Shivanand joined voices with Neval Chaitlal to do the song ‘ Chalat Musaphir’.
Shivanand’sbrother Narendra Maharaj also showed off his skills in playing the guitar and the flute.
It was a night to remember as singing sensation, Shakuntala Jangbahadoor joined voices with TT’s top recording star Indar Kanhai to give an excellent redition of the Bollywood tune Tere Mere Ki Raina’.
Shakuntala also sang the popular song ‘Suhani Raat’. These received loud applaud for the blending their voices in true Bollywood style. The showed was opened by Capil Samlal on the tenor pan and followed by Shakuntala. Film singer Satnarine Ragoo did the popular songs, ‘Tere Bina’ and ‘Tumhi Hoo’.
