Dr Jean, an exemplary nurse
Grayson, who was once the Chief Nursing Officer, passed away on September 1. A week later the Public Service Medal of Merit Gold honouree was taken back to the church of her childhood to be celebrated and given a final commendation before her cremation at Belgrove’s Funeral Home and Crematorium in Tacarigua.
She and her six brothers (one deceased) and four sisters, the children of the late Clebert and Germain Grayson, grew up at Agostini Street, Curepe. Grayson last resided at La Resource (North), D’Abadie Valerie Alleyne-Rawlins of the TT Registered Nurses Association spoke of the role Grayson played in training her and the first batch of local nursing students more than 40 years of ago.
“I am honoured to have been among them (the students),” Rawlins said, hailing Grayson as a “nurse exemplar, then listing her sterling accomplishments in the profession including being the first local member of the International Nursing Council.
It was also the TTRNA which nominated Grayson for the national award she received from then President George Maxwell Richards at the 2011 Independence National Awards ceremony.
Grayson’s brother Clive spoke of her deep faith as an Anglican Christian, her sense of charity and humility, and her love of reading and travel, from across the Caribbean, North America, Europe and Africa.
Tributes were also made by the Nursing Fellowship and the Retired Nurses Association.
