TT boxers in Venezuela clash
Sheldon Lawrence will clash with Edwin Mota in a fourround light heavyweight contest, while Allen matches fists with Katherine Genesis in a flyweight four-rounder also.
In Saturday’s pre-fight weight-in Lawrence tipped the scales at 172 pounds while his Venezuelan opponent came in at 169 pounds.
Both Allen and Genesis weighed in at 106.5 pounds.
Lawrence said he is very optimistic of winning his bout by the knock-out route over Mota who is shorter by four and a half inches.
“He is going to feel my power at the sound of the bell. I am going to go straight after him and make a statement by keeping him on his back-foot.
I am going to back him up and keep him on the defensive,” said Lawrence.
He said that he is keenly aware that he is fighting in the Venezuelan’s backyard so will not be allowing the decision to be decided on the scorecards.
Allen was a bit more cautious of her prospects saying that she was quietly confident of winning the fight against Genesis, who will be making her professional debut, while it will be the second outing for the Petit Valley boxer.
“I am told that she has 15 amateur fights but this is less than my ring experience of 34 bouts as an amateur. So whatever presents itself I will take it.
I know that I will have to win every round or knock her out to be victorious in her hometown and that is what I am here to do,” said Allen.
In their corner for the contests will be astute manager/ promoter/coach Boxu Potts.
