Walcott to speak at HOPE in South
The event called HOPE — Helping Our People Excel — begins at 9 am today.
Guest speakers include Olympic Medallist Keshorn Walcott; Wayne Chance of Vision on Mission; Wendell Manwarren of 3canal; businessman Marvin Ramnarine and Gayelle TV’s Errol Fabien.
The event is being held under the patronage of MP for San Fernando West and Attorney General, Faris Al Rawi and San Fernando Mayor Alderman Kazim Hosein.
Nagen Annamunthodo, committee chairman of the outreach community projects said it was being done to uplift the mentality of the people of the area and to raise awareness of the residents with respect to training, certification and educational opportunities.
Participants will get advice on craftsman certification, job opportunities, skills training, finance, employment and business management.
The programme will also include a cultural show featuring Rico Suave Dance Company and a martial arts display.
“We endeavour to provide some of the residents with a reduction from a life of negative influence along with productive skills,” said Annamunthodo.
She added the empowerment aspect would be an expo-style display of booths featuring SBCS, Nedco and Ettic, NESC, UTT , Costatt, Lifeline, KFC, MIC, Sagicor, TT DF, Police Youth Club, Ministry of Community Development, Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute, ODPM, Ministry of Agriculture, Scouts Association, Girl Guides Association, UWI-School of Continuing Studies, YTEPP, YWCA, FPA, Servol and Roytec among others.
Annamunthodo said: “The highlight of the day’s activities would be the presentation of potential scholarship winners to pursue tertiary education to deserving students’ courtesy the Rotary Club.”
