S/Grande woman dies after giving birth

An ultrasound was done and doctors sadly confirmed that the baby was dead in the womb. The baby was delivered and a short while later, Sookram developed complications and subsequently died later that evening. An official from the communications department at the Eastern Regional Health Authority (ERHA) said Sookram was about 38 weeks along in her pregnancy and well within the delivery period.

“She attended antenatal clinic and as far as these visits showed, she had an uneventful pregnancy.

A thorough investigation has been launched into the matter and I believe this would be done internally because it would involve the quality department, legal department, the chief executive officer and the chairman,” the official said.
