Woman jumps from overpass in suicide bid

AN ARGUMENT with her husband prompted a 32-year-old woman to jump 20 feet off the St Clement overpass in Ste Madeleine in a failed suicide attempt. According to police, the St Clement woman sustained internal injuries, a broken right leg, a broken pelvis and spinal injuries and is warded in serious condition at San Fernando General Hospital. The incident occurred shortly before midnight on Divali night.


Police reports revealed that around 11.45 pm, the woman was liming with her husband at Brass Bar in St Clements, when a heated argument broke out between them. Police said the woman became upset and ran out of the bar, threatening to kill herself. She ran to the nearby overpass and jumped, landing on the Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension. Police said her injuries suggest she would have landed on her feet. An EHS ambulance rushed the unconscious woman to hospital where she was treated and admitted. PC Gangoo of the Ste Madeleine Police Station is continuing investigations.
