Expressing surprise at reports of a row over the date between rival Hindu bodies, Minister Cuffie said he thought the date had already been publicly announced.

Later yesterday, the date was confirmed in a statement from President’s Office.

“His Excellency Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona ORTT, SC President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago has appointed Saturday 29th October, 2016 as the date of the public holiday in celebration of the festival of Divali.

The appointment of this date was done in accordance with the provision of the Public Holidays and Festivals Act, Chap.19:05”, stated a release from President’s Office.
