Penalised with property tax

As a retired teacher I have never been “dependent” on the Government.

As a teacher, being the lowest paid professional in the country on a fixed monthly salary, I have been able to save for more than 30 years, enough to buy a property and build a home to retire, knowing that at age 60 I would have been pushed out of my profession by the Government.

Today, as a pensioner, I must now pay a property tax, because I have not been dependent on the Government.

On one hand we are being flogged for being “dependent” on the Government and on the other hand we are being taxed for not being “dependent” on the Government.

What kind of brain does such a contradiction emanate from?
