Consul: The Bahamas took a phenomenal beating
She said, “A direct hit throughout the archipelago, combined with the dangerous effects of the eye wall on the central and northwest Bahamas was monstrous! “Fortunately, thanks to the country’s preparedness, there was no loss of life. So now we must refocus, rebuild and restore our country.
Our future depends on it.” She recalled what she termed as the agonising experience of Joaquin in the SE Bahamas just one year ago, saying, it is almost unreal that another hurricane came barreling through the Bahama islands for the greater part of the past 24 hours. “With unrelenting 130 mph winds and torrential rains, this catastrophic monster is reported to have left unspeakable devastation on many of our islands, which for some time, will cause significant disruption, despite the country’s diligent state of preparedness,” said Dr Davis.
She then opined, “With a massive and mounting death toll in its wake, Hurricane Matthew will go down in history as perhaps the greatest test of resilience for the Caribbean in recent times.”
