EBC gears up for local election
And, according to the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC), some 1,060,481 electors registered to vote for the poll, comprising two cities, Port-of-Spain and San Fernando; three boroughs, Arima, Chaguanas and Point Fortin and nine regional corporations.
In a statement yesterday, the EBC said electoral registration for the election begins on Tuesday and ends on October 26 - the final day in which qualified persons will be able to regularise their registration status with the Commission before the election.
EBC corporate communications manager Dominic Hinds said the purpose of electoral registration is to facilitate persons who: (1) have attained the age of 18 years and over but have not been registered as electors; (2) have been registered as electors but have changed their addresses and not informed the Registration Officer of such; (3) have been registered as electors and have changed their names because of marriage or otherwise, but their previous names still appear on the Preliminary List of Electors; (4) have been registered as electors but their names do not appear on the Preliminary List of electors.
Hinds said qualified persons should visit the Registration Area Offices during the following days and times: Monday to Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Saturday: 9.00am to 3:00pm Sunday: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Hinds said at the close of registration next Wednesday, no further registration or related matters will be effected. As such, he said the public will be duly notified by the EBC as to the resumption date of registration activities at the Registration Area Offices.
