Fire victim appeals for help
According to reports, at just after midnight on Monday, Rampersad’s son Rajiv, 22, alerted her and her husband Michael who were asleep in an upstairs bedroom, about the fire.
The inferno also destroyed a car and a boat which were parked in front of the building while a pick-up truck also sustained damage. A neighbour’s home also sustained some damage in the blaze.
In a telephone interview yesterday, a still distraught Rampersad, said she had not received any assistance though the City Corporation had given her forms to receive assistance from the Ministry of Social Development as well as a food card.
“Everything gone to ashes,” Rampersad said, “my ID card, bank card, phones, everything. All I want is to build back a little room to start over and some groceries.” She said the source of the fire had not yet been identified by the Fire Services.
Anyone wishing to offer assistance can call 683-8345.
