Cops shoot, kill man

According to police, at 1 pm yesterday, officers of Southern Division, acting on information, went to the apartment home of Gilbert’s relatives at the Housing Development Complex in Lawrence Street, San Fernando to execute several warrants, when Gilbert confronted them with a gun.

The report further stated there was an exchange of gunfire during which time Gilbert was shot and wounded. He was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Gilbert also had addresses at Embacadere and Ramsaran Street and Carlton Lane, San Fernando.

During the police operation, it was reported that a police officer was assaulted by a female occupant in the apartment.

Police revealed that Gilbert was wanted in connection with several murders, shootings and robberies in the division. Yesterday when Newsday visited relatives were reluctant to speak however angry residents gathered on the roadway accused police of deliberately killing Gilbert who they said at the time was unarmed. Investigations are continuing.
