Murdered granny laid to rest
Relatives yesterday noted that the service was a “private one” and, as such, requested that there be no media coverage of it. Police reports state that at about 3.30 am on Thursday, bandits broke down the front door to the house, ransacked the inside and stole $1,000. Investigators believe that the elderly woman, who was alone, ran out of the house in an attempt to escape her attackers while holding on to a cellular phone.
But before she had a chance to telephone anyone, one of the intruders struck her with the concrete block causing her to fall. The men used the concrete block to bash in Ali’s head and chest.
When her body was discovered on Thursday afternoon, her arms were spread wide with one hand still clutching her cellular phone. Police found burn marks on a window in the kitchen area which they believe was an attempt to hide evidence. For the past eight years, Ali had been staying at her daughter’s home located at Wellington Road in Debe. However, she preferred to live alone at Farnum Village where she operated a flower business. An autopsy conducted at the Forensic Science Centre in St James on Friday, revealed that she died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head. The search continued yesterday for the killers and officers of the Homicide Bureau, San Fernando are continuing investigations.
