Kamla queries move of polling station

And while she did not rule out legal action against the EBC, she said she would need additional information on the relocation of the polling station before such a decision was made. Persad-Bissessar was speaking with reporters shortly after casting her vote at Hermitage Presbyterian School, Hermitage Village, San Fernando yesterday.

She said the voting process, which took less than five minutes, proceeded smoothly and that she had cast her vote for incumbent Palmiste/ Hermitage councillor, Roland Hall.

“There were no problems here,” Persad-Bissessar said. “They have told me in this station things have gone smoothly and I voted for councillor Roland Hall, which is in my own electoral district in the Penal/ Debe Corporation, I am sure he will be victorious as would all the candidates would be in the Penal/Debe Corporation.” “However I am concerned about some of the other reports that are coming in. In fact, in the electoral district of California/Point Lisas, the polling station was moved only this morning.

Notification was given for the movement of that station from the Esperanza Presbyterian School to the Dow Village Presbyterian School and that would have meant a whole change in the election day machinery put forward by our candidate, Ramchand Rajbal,” Persad-Bissessar said. She recalled that a similar incident had transpired on Saturday when several polling stations in the Felicity electoral district had been relocated and this had caused significant realignment of the party’s election day machinery.

“I will have to get more information about what transpired before any such steps are taken and, of course, the advice of the legal team. So I wouldn’t want to jump that gun either, it may be too early in the day” Persad-Bissessar noted that voter turnout seemed to be quite low as compared to previous elections and once again urged citizens to exercise their franchise and vote for the party of their choice.
