Youths reminded of importance of education

Coppin told them, “When I was asked to say a few words today, what came to mind was a few words from The Mighty Sparrow who spoke about, and allow me to paraphrase, education, education gives you the right foundation “Our rising population needs sound education/ To be recognised anywhere you go/you must have your certificate to show.../There is simply no room in this whole wide world for an uneducated little boy or girl.” I think we can all agree that the problem of youth delinquency and youths not having a clear purpose in life, perhaps being the fundamental problem...” Coppin also commended the Esimaje Foundation on its efforts to assist the youth of the nation, saying that their philosophy is in line with the philosophy of the current Government’s, which is, involving volunteer organisations like Esimaje to help address the social problems afflicting the State.

He reminded attendees of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley’s statement that the people of Trinidad and Tobago have to get rid of the “dependency syndrome,” that the State must always provide, and said that what he believed the PM meant to say that there should be a joint effort between the state and volunteer organisations to efficiently address the social ills facing the nation.

The programme in question aims to identify schools in high need communities, in order to improve existing educational resources
