Moruga man beaten, robbed of $25,000

A WOMAN and her four children could only watch in helpless horror as her husband was “planassed” (beaten with flat side of a cutlass) by armed bandits who escaped with $25,000 in cash and jewelry. According to police, Colie Hamilton, 46, was at his St Mary’s Village home in Moruga with his wife Gail, 43, around 11.30 pm on Tuesday, when four masked men broke down the front door and announced a hold-up. Armed with guns and cutlasses, the bandits severely beat Hamilton with cutlasses before robbing the family of $22,000 in jewelry and $3,000 in cash.

The bandits also took his wife’s cellular phone to prevent them from contacting the police. After the bandits fled the scene, the family went to a neighbour’s home where they called the police. No one has been arrested, nor any of the stolen items recovered. Head of South-Eastern Division, Supt Joseph Nathaniel, is heading investigations.
