Fake cops kidnap Curepe businessman
A CUREPE businessman has become this nation’s latest kidnap victim. Dexter Jagdeo, 39, owner of Amcon Investments Ltd of Joyeau Street, Curepe, was kidnapped Thursday night by four men posing as police officers. According to police reports, Jagdeo had just returned from a shopping trip around 8.30 pm at a nearby mall and was relaxing in his living room with his wife, when four men, posing as policemen burst into the room shouting “police, police.” They handcuffed the businessman and took him away. Sometime later, relatives received a call demanding $2.5 million for his release.
When Newsday visited the man’s Joyeau Street business place — Amcon Car Rentals, a subsidiary of Amcon Investments — a man who claimed to be a worker said the Jagdeos did not live there and he did not know where they lived. He also said he did not have a telephone number for them or any information about what had taken place. Anti-Kidnapping Squad officers could only say an investigation was going on and they were working on certain leads. Neighbours, however, expressed shock that a kidnapping had taken place right in their community and they did not know until the media started asking questions. Jagdeo’s kidnapping is the third in two weeks. The first two were of three-year-old Brian Bedase and Port-of-Spain businesswoman Michelle Rostant, who were both rescued.
